Weapons of Jiu Jitsu: Sticks

Here the term stick is used to refer to roughly cylindrical non-bladed weapons used for striking, levering and bludgeoning. Such weapons need not always be made of wood, but within Jiu Jitsu defences from and with such weapons are taught from a relatively early grade.

The sticks are categorised like so:

Very Short - kubotan, yawara
Short - baton/cosh
Medium - hanbo
Long - jo
Very Long - bo
