Jitsu Slang

Jiu Jitsu tends to make up a substantial amount of the life of a jitsuka - even outside the dojo for those of us who actually socialise with other jitsuka. This inevitably leads to some invented terminology entering into conversations. Listed below are some light-hearted examples of the sorts of things you might expect to hear in a Jitsu related conversation in your local drinking establishment....

  • Decking - To graciously place one's training partner at your feet with great gusto
  • Diving - Falling out of a throw on purpose before it has actually been taken to the point of actual throwing

  • Hakama Hooker - A woman who is seen as an expert Hack Hunter (see below) and has several accounts of success
  • Hacking - Attacking someone's calf with your heel during a reaping movement
  • Hack Hunter - Someone who seeks out senior jitsuka for companionship (this is a curiously predominant pastime among female jitsuka)
  • Hacks - An abbreviation of hakama - an item of clothing worn by senior jitsuka.

  • Jitsu - A shortened version of Jiu Jitsu and attributed to the style of Shorinji Kan jiu jitsu

  • Sesh - An abbreviation of 'session'; applied to training in a dojo or consumption of alcohol in a public house
  • Slammin - An adjective applied to training sessions that infers a large amount of throwing was partaken of during the session, or in some cases that the session was merely tough but highly enjoyable
