Town Club - Location
The York Town Jiu Jitsu club is based at St. Olave's School just outside the walls of York's city
centre. The school is the junior school of St. Peter's School.
You can get to York quickly from the UK motorway network. Travelling north on the M1 or A1 you'll come to the A64
intersection. The city is 15 minutes away via dual carriageway.
Travelling south on the A1, you'll also leave the motorway at the A64.
From the west on the M62, join the M1 northbound until you reach the intersection with the A64.
York is also served by the A19, A1079 and A166 routes into the city.
From the City Centre:
Take the A19 (Bootham) from Bootham Bar (this is just over 5 minutes walk from the railway station. The entrance
of St. Olave's School can be found by turning left down Queen Anne Road (immediately before St. Peter's School) and
following the road around to the right.
From the A64:
Take the Northern Ring Road (A1237). At the fourth roundabout turn right along the A19 (towards the City Centre -
Bootham). St. Peter's School is 2 miles on the right, 400 metres after Clifton Green. There is a footbridge over the
road to this school. Take the first turning on the right after the footbridge, to turn down Queen Anne Road. Follow
the road down and to the right to find the entrance to St. Olave's School.
Parking:
There is limited parking outside the school, but a large car park is available nearby. Two turnings nearer the
town centre than Queen Anne Road (same side) is a street called Marygate. Drive down Marygate (towards the river Ouse),
and turn right just before the Bay Horse pub. Here you will find Marygate car park.
A shortcut from here to get to the school is as follows. With the car park entrance on your right walk forwards to the
top of the car park, and then turn left to go through a little tunnel under the York - Sacrborough railway line. Cross
the street, and continue straight ahead down the alley past the railings (please be sensible about this route after
dark - walk in groups, etc.). Following this alley will bring you to the bottom of Queen Anne's Road and to St. Olave's
School.
The Entrance:
To enter the school please use the entrance within the small playground area next to the main entrance doors. Security
or a member of the club will be able to let you in.
National Rail provide train timetables to help
you get to York by train - which is located on the UK's East coast main-line (GNER), so there are plenty of trains.
