University of York Jiu Jitsu Club - History

The University of York Samurai Jiu Jitsu Club (as it was originally called) was started in the late eighties at the University of York by Sensei Michael Lycett. The club ran for a year 'unofficially' without funding from the University's Athletic Union, but since then has been one of the strongest club's in the University.

University of York Jitsu Club Training Times

The University club trains in the dance studio three times a week during term time at the University of York Sports Centre on the University of York campus in Heslington (York, UK).

  • Monday: 19:00 - 21:00
  • Thursday: 18:00 - 20:00
  • Saturday: 13:00 - 15:00

If you are in search of additional sessions or training out of term time, sessions are also run in York city centre at York Town Jitsu Club.

 

University of York Jiu Jitsu Club

The University of York Jiu Jitsu Club (UoYJJC) was the first Shorinji Kan Jiu Jitsu club to be started in York, and over the years it has been responsible for producing some of the best jitsuka in the country - including a number of students who have gone on to start and run other clubs around the country.

The club provides a standard of teaching that is second to none in a friendly and safe environment.
